The world, as we know it, has changed. Is it for better or for worse?
And why do we want it to be as it was?
"Everything is relative." What today may seem like the end of the world, where it feels like it’s impossible to carry on, in the blink of an eye, there will be another phase where you overcame the challenge and developed a new set of tools that you may need for tomorrow's stage.
From my perspective, if we are creating business environments where everyone feels appreciated, rewarded, recognised, branded and so on, why don’t we close the loop of holding the title of a jack-of-all-trades, master of none? Take it as easy like a Sunday morning!
What you need to be is a pro in what you are undoubtedly competent at, and each one of us has their very own skillset, know-how and expertise to be admired and the capacity to get hands-on with their work right away!
What is the most valuable offering you can provide your customer? Good price? Good service? Stunning products? Yes, yes, yes, yes, NO!
As I said at the beginning, everything is relative. What in your mind may sound like the best service your business provides, may, in fact, be from the perspective of your customer irrelevant, not valuable or too pricey.
As Business Owners, we are problem-solving suppliers. Our solutions are directly tailored and personalised to those who may need it.
As leaders, we open/start the path for others to pursue. Your commitment is to focus on providing accurate solutions possible for your end-user/shareholders/customers.
If your solutions are not easy to adopt or they lose value in different circumstances, they are not the right solutions, after all! So you need to keep thinking harder, or you could hire a professional who will give you a hand with this.
Novelty, now this is crucial when creating and ideating solutions! But no worries, it will take all of us a while! Or congratulations if you achieved it quickly! I believe that if you put together unlimited open-mindedness, willingness to receive matters as they come, be unbiased, and curiously itching for zooming in and out the picture when needed. Chances are you will succeed!
Remember to do good; WE are here to deliver real, sustainable value with our solutions, not to screw up the world!
So, are your solutions enabling stability, sustainability, equity?
When you cook, when you do a lab experiment, when you ski, when you drive – what makes each of them a sublime experience?
“The right combination of "ingredients" and the perfect timing as a compulsory must!”
One of the most useful recipes to solve problems is to actively listen to what someone has to say, share, and even if the "the worst" happens and something doesn’t work out (it happens!), allow yourself to show disappointment but not anger.
Problem-solving is an iterative process. Remember, at the end of the day, we are humans dealing with humans. Communicate honestly and openly within the psychological safety of your community, where trust, support, and courage are core values.
Utilise wisely the information/data you gather from your prospects, leads and customers, it is presently one of the coins that we need most. Who controls it, will rule!
Authenticity is mandatory, not only for the people you do business with but moreover for yourself. Fake it till you make it, won't last long when keeping business relationships, creating and seeding your brand, making yourself well recognised, appreciated and rewarded. Recognition is a human need!
Do we need to be so dull? NO! We need more fun at work! The truth is that we’ve been doing business so stiffly that we have forgotten that it can be the ultimate source of well-being, can boost creativity and facilitate building a work community.
No one likes to go to a toxic workspace or have a meeting with a person who reacts like a robot. We are humans, we have flavours in life, spark, fire! Ignite it! Besides, it is of great worth seeing a smile on another person’s face. My respect if your customers get to enjoy a belly laugh, thanks to you!
My last piece of advice: for a change, team-up with professionals who hold a diversity of thought, listen closely to the vicissitude’s you are told, utilise their experiences to avoid repeating the same flawed patterns.
What about age? – "The devil knows more because he is old than because he is the devil." Personally, I enjoy co-working with a mixed-age team. Let’s call it “ageless”.
Now you may say, “they are fix-minded, not-up-to-date, slow”. Weren’t you the same a few years back when you were a “junior”? One word: Tolerance!
So, what is your combination of ingredients for success?
